Children's Ministries
Sunday School - Music Programs - Youth Education

Our Sunday Families are sorted by grade level and the program coincides with our main worship service at 10:30 a.m.  So, while you are in the Sanctuary, your children will be enjoying the programs we've designed to encourage them to grow in their own faith.  We share with them Christian stories and values, provide them opportunities to serve the church & community and welcome them into our church as participating members in worship, prayer and simple rituals.

INFANTS AND TODDLERS Nursery (0-2 year olds)

We strive to provide “sacred childcare” for our youngest children. We work to create an atmosphere of warmth, cceptance, and security.   We have Bible stories available but share them casually as the children’s attention allows.

“GODLY PLAY”  Preschool (3-5 year olds)

Warmth and acceptance remain central in our preschool class, but we also recognize children’s growing love of stories and capacity for directed attention. Our program, called “Godly Play,” is based on Montessori principles. We present the Word—selected stories from the Old and New Testaments—with sturdy props akin to Montessori’s teaching tools. After the story is told, children may play with the story boxes or follow up with related arts and crafts activities.

CORNERSTONES  Kindergarten through 5th grade

Cornerstones features an important Biblical story each month. Rotation workshops repeat the story each week and reinforce it through art, drama, special activities, or outreach. Teachers teach one complete story cycle, a one-month commitment. Because teachers change, one “shepherd” stays with each class all year long.

EXPLORING OUR FAITHS 6th Grade

How do we express our faiths through worship? First, we focus sixth graders’ natural curiosity on our own denominations. Then, we look at other Protestant denominations as well as Catholicism, Judaism, Islam, and Hinduism. Sixth graders conclude by creating their own Informal Worship service

COMPUTER LAB

Our computer lab is a hit with children, who use it informally and occasionally as a rotation station. We offer a variety of Bible software, including games, maps and stories.

CHILDREN'S MUSIC PROGRAMS

CHOIRS

Singing and playing instruments are important ways of worshipping God. Indian Hill Church’s children’s choirs participate in Informal Worship each week. The Choristers Guild Journal provides a rich source for children’s choir anthems. In addition to singing, choristers often volunteer to play percussion and other Orff instruments to accompany our anthems. Musical selections are chosen to complement the Christian Education curriculum.

CAROL AND JUNIOR CHOIRS

Choristers in the Carol and Junior Choirs meet from 4:00—4:45 PM on Thursday afternoons in Room 6. Carol Choir members are in grades K—3 and Junior choristers are in 4th grade and older. These youth choirs prepare hymns & anthems, sing frequently at Worship Services and entertain at other events throughout the year.

HANDBELL CHOIR
The children’s handbell choir is open to elementary age students and older. Music reading skills are encouraged but not required. The group performs occasionally at 10:30 Worship and rehearses from 4:50—5:30 PM on Thursday afternoons.
